Help Pakistan Flood Relief 2010

In line with its disaster alleviation efforts, Help Pakistan took part in relief activities during the 2010 floods in Pakistan. The efforts were centered for the affectees in the province of Sindh.

Initially, three members of the HelpPakistan Team joined a large group of donors and volunteers for a trip to Makli, Thatta and Sajawal on Sunday, September 25, 2010. This trip proved to be an extraordinary 'touch-base' experience with ground reality in the affected areas. A detailed need analysis was conducted by the team. Later, 200 rashan hampers were distributed among IDPs living in tent villages in Thatta.

Based on the first hand information gathered on the first trip, Help Pakistan arranged lunch for 5,000 IDPs on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr through collaborative efforts. 60 degs of beef and gravy and 7500 naans were provided to displaced flood affectees settled in various relief camps in Thatta and adjoining areas. The expense was covered from donations gathered through 'Urgent SMS' alerts on the last two days of Ramadan.

The second visit of Help Pakistan Team was to Sukkur, Mirpur Bhoro and Ghotki on October 16 and 17, 2010. Two of the donors accompanied our team for this trip and also volunteered for the distribution of another 200 rashan hampers and 10,000 bottles of Aab-e-Nuqra (water purifier) to flood affectees. During this visit, a hand pump and an electronic pump were also installed at Moro.

The flood relief activities were made possible by the very kind donations from our regular donor base as well as a lot of other individuals from within the country and abroad. Due to their quick and timely response, we were able to help our fellow Pakistanis in distress.
